Enjoy a cup of our goji leaf tea and take advantage of the anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, anti-mutagenic effects.
100% Goji Leaf Tea
Our Goji Leaf Tea is made with 100% natural Goji leaves (Lycium barbarum or Lycium chinense) grown without the use of any pesticides, on the territory of the EU.
Dr. Andrei Mocan and his colleagues' latest 2 years research at the University of Hamburg, Germany, supported by the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU), was done on different Goji leaf extracts, which showed very significant antioxidant, enzyme inhibitory, antimicrobial, antifungal and anti-mutagenic activities.
In this study, that was also published in the Journal of Enzyme Inhibition and Medicinal Chemistry · September 2016 edition, leaf extracts from two selected cultivars in comparison with wild-growing plants have been evaluated, one of the cultivars being our very own strain named L. barbarum Erma, with the plant material sampled from our main plantation, the other strain being Lifeberry Big. We are proud to say that our leaves performed very well in every aspect of the quantitative and qualitative analysis of the study regarding the beneficial pharmaceutical compounds found in the leaves, a fact emphasized throughout the study.
Our Goji Leaf Tea is a new unique product that is an absolute novelty on the market with amazing beneficial qualities due to the fact that Goji leaves are a rich source of bioactive compounds with functional properties, being a little known, untapped source (in the western world) of antioxidants and flavonoids of plant origin.
Until recently the leaves of L. barbarum or L. chinense, called “tianjingcao” (vitality and vigor of the nature) in traditional Chinese medicine, have been rarely studied, despite their use in alleviating mineral deficiency, combating heat distress, quenching thirst, dispelling wind, and enhancing eyesight for millennia, used by the traditional eastern medicines of Tibet and China.
The above mentioned analysis revealed the presence of phenolic acids and flavonoids with chlorogenic acid and rutin being the dominant compounds and it showed very significant antioxidant, enzyme inhibitory, antimicrobial, antifungal and antimutagenic activities.
Another study also done by Dr. Mocan in Basel, Switzerland that focused on the polyphenolic content, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities, on top of the already mentioned compounds, it revealed the presence of gentisic and caffeic acids, as well as the presence of kaempferol.
Phenolic compounds like the ones found in our Goji Leaf Tea, exhibit various bioactivities such as antimicrobial, antiviral, anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory and protective effects against cell and cutaneous aging. Their anti-oxidant properties as well as their beneficial effects against Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes mellitus, and cardiovascular diseases are nowadays highly emphasized.
The antibacterial activity of chlorogenic acid, the main phenolic compound in the leaves, has already been demonstrated in various studies. According to Lou et al.89, chlorogenic acid induced lethal effect on both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria by provoking irreversible permeability changes in the cell membrane, causing the cells to lose the ability to maintain membrane potential.
Levels of chlorogenic acid from our samples were at an amazing 24887.11 μg/g, while rutin levels were at an incredible 9939 μg/g, 6.5 times more than the other two strains.
Rutin, the other main active ingredient in our Goji Leaf Tea is a bioflavonoid with very strong antioxidant properties that helps the body produce collagen and use vitamin C, it helps blood circulation by strengthening and increasing flexibility of the blood vessels, it prevents blood cloths reducing the chances of developing heart attacks and strokes, it can help lower LDL cholesterol, it can ease arthritic pain due to it’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.
In recent years, the possible toxicity of synthetic antioxidants has been reported. Thus, the potential of plant products to serve as natural antioxidants for protecting against various diseases induced by free radicals has been explored, making our Goji Leaf Tea a perfect candidate for a source of all natural antioxidants.
